Center for Excellence in Disabilities Resource Center
What is the Center for Excellence in Disabilities (CED) Resource Center?
The CED Resource Center is a comfortable area where families, students, professionals, community members and people with disabilities can get information on disabilities. The Center includes information on disability law, research and best practice, referral sources, advocacy supports and community living.
The Resource Center includes space for small meetings, a children's play area, a video/DVD viewing area, an accessible computer for Internet or in-house searches, a library of books, magazines and journals as well as brochures and fact sheets.
What is available in the Resource Center?
Magazines and journals are available to learn about new ways to serve people with disabilities, how other families and groups get supports and improve their quality of life, and what local, state and national agencies and organizations are doing to improve the lives of people with disabilities and their families.
Books can be checked out that describe the Americans with Disabilities Act and its requirements, how to negotiate the special education maze, how to stay healthy with a disability and much more. Children's books tell positive stories about the abilities of all children.
Fact Sheets can be photocopied that give information on diagnosis, funding supports, and agencies and organizations that support people with disabilities and their families.
Videos and DVDs can be checked out for training or information purposes, or can be viewed when you visit the Resource Center.
How can I access the Resource Center?
The CED Resource Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm and at other times by appointment. The phone number is 304-293-4692, Ext. 1102. You can also learn about the Resource Center through the CED web site at www.cedwvu.org
