CDC’s Disability and Health Branch: Improving the Health of People with Disabilities

Bio: Dr. Shannon Griffin-Blake serves as the Chief for the Disability and Health Branch in the Division of Human Development and Disability at the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She provides leadership, strategic management, and operational experience to CDC’s disability and health portfolio, which includes 19 State Disability and Health Programs, two National Centers of Disability, the Disability and Health Data System, as well as applied and epidemiological research projects aimed at improving the lives of people with disabilities. Dr. Griffin-Blake brings an extensive background and publication history in community engagement and mobilization, community assessment and evaluation, physical activity surveillance, intervention effectiveness and model development, and health disparities to her current role. Dr. Griffin-Blake holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Arts in Health Education and Promotion from East Carolina University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Behavior from the University of Georgia.

  • Describe the Disability and Health Branch’s (DHB) role in improving the health and well-being of people with disabilities; and
  • Explain how DHB works with partners to build inclusive communities where people with disabilities have access to disease prevention and health promotion programs and services.
