Mobile applications, better known as "apps," can be used as helpful tools for people with healthcare issues and/or disabilities. The resources included here all have apps for iOS (Apple/iPhone/iPad), Android (Samsung, Google, etc.), and/or web browsers (to use on laptop or desktop computers). We have tried to only include apps that are free or have a free trial. Click a category to see individual apps and links.

Web-based app for speech recognition for non-standard speech. Offers speech-to-speech, speech-to-text, and integration modes. An easy to use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) aid for people of any age who have speech or language difficulties. Users can make their own vocabulary boards and integrate text-to-speech features.

An augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app that talks for you by clicking on symbols. The app has predefined communication boards from different areas of life. Clicking on a symbol reads it aloud and adds it to a sentence which can also be read.

Lingraphica TalkPath Therapy ( iOS | web )
An app for clinicians to create unique, customized therapy plans for clients, assign homework, and monitor activities with the platform’s built-in activity reports. Can be used on iOS devices and also web browsers.

SmallTalk Daily Activities ( iOS )
Provides a library of pictures you can tap that speak out loud. This includes common words and phrases around communication, eating, dressing, grooming, living at home, leisure, and more.

Speech Assistant AAC ( iOS | Android )
A text-to-speech app designed for people who are speech impaired due to aphasia, ALS, autism, stroke, cerebral palsy, or other conditions. Use the app to create categories and phrases which are placed on buttons that can then be used to craft messages.

MyTalkTools ( iOS | Android )
Users can build augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools to express themselves through images, video, and audio files, including human voice. Communication boards can be shared with caregivers, teachers, and health professionals as needed.

Provides remote, on-demand ASL interpreting with a live professional ASL interpreter. Professionals use your device’s camera and microphone to listen to what is spoken and sign it back to the user and/or voice what is signed through the camera. Works for individuals with hearing and/or visual impairments.

Provides access to a remote visual interpreter for the blind and low-vision community to enhance independence. Visual interpreters work with users to accomplish tasks and navigate obstacles in their surroundings. Includes several free features and free access partner sites, including various businesses.
