WVU Disability Studies
West Virginia University offers students the opportunity to earn an undergraduate minor or graduate certificate in Disability Studies (DISB). Students from a variety of majors can add these courses to gain leadership and management skills to prepare them to expand their professional and employment options.
Graduate Certificate
The Certificate in Disability Studies prepares students to understand the complex economic and social issues related to disabilities by learning directly from persons with disabilities and their families as well as learning about disability history, law, policy, education, sexuality, disability and the arts and more. Students are trained to enter the workforce with the knowledge, skills and experience needed to provide services to persons with disabilities and their families.
Undergraduate Minor
Through the DISB program, students collaborate with and learn from experts in the disability field including pediatric neurologists, geneticists, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, special education leaders, social workers, physical and occupational therapists and others. This minor can augment studies in a wide range of academic majors or serve as an area of emphasis in the Multidisciplinary Studies (MDS) program in either the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences or the College of Human Resources and Education.

Both the Certificate Program and minor require the completement of 15 credit hours some or all of which may be counted toward degree programs with the permission of the student’s academic department.
