Two Country Roads students graduate from program
Tuesday, May 16, 2023
The Country Roads program at the WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities (CED) celebrated two new graduates during May Commencement.
Country Roads is a two-year program that prepares students with disabilities for independence by providing academic courses, social engagement and real-world work experiences. Students live in a shared residential housing arrangement, participate in social activities across campus and receive career education and training.
New graduates Sam and Abbie are already eyeing future opportunities beyond the program. More academic pursuits could be in store for Sam, who plans to continue taking WVU Communications courses after spending the summer working back home. Abbie is set to use her experience in the program to continue exploring future employment opportunities.
Currently enrolled WVU students can volunteer to be Peer Mentors with the program. Peer Mentors help support the students enrolled in the Country Roads program as they acclimate to college and life on campus.
The next round of Country Roads students will begin their new student orientation in June.
