- The CED presented three poster presentations, at the national Association of University Centers on Disability (AUCD) conference and meeting. The accepted posters were "Implementing Innovate Uses of Assistive Technologies in the Classroom," "Using Electronic Portfolios to Showcase MCH/LEND Trainee Leadership Skills," and "Taking Charge: Activating Senior Networks in Rural Appalachia."
- The CED Feeding and Swallowing Clinic Team hosted 12 community-based clinicians at a 2 1/2 day intensive workshop on December 3-5, 2008 at the CED. The workshop, entitled "Assessment and Treatment of Pediatric Dysphagia: A Team Approach," was designed to train teams of community-based clinicians how to provide interdisciplinary feeding assessments to children in their home communities. Participants came from hospital based clinics, the West Virginia school system and the WV Birth To Three program.
The workshop included didactic presentations, demonstration clinics, and case study discussions. At the end of the workshop, participants asked the Feeding Team to schedule another date to demonstrate specific treatment procedures. The Team will look at ways to provide this kind of training in 2009.
