Who is at Higher Risk?
We learn more about COVID-19 as it continues to move across the globe. At this time, we know that older adults and people with serious chronic medical conditions are at higher risk. If you, or a family member are at a higher risk for exposure or vulnerable to COVID-19 symptoms, there are extra precautions you should take to reduce your risk of getting sick.
Getting Ready for COVID-19
The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) have provided a list for what to do to prepare for the COVID-19: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html.
1. Protect yourself and others by keeping away from others who may be sick and large groups and limiting close contact (about 6 feet) from someone else.
2. Continue to practice good hand hygiene and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
3. Clean all “high-touch” surfaces (counters, tabletops, doorknobs)
You should also develop a household plan of action if someone were to have symptoms suggestive of the COVID-19 disease. To prepare yourself, your family, and your community:
- Talk with people who need to be included in your household plan of action
- Check with your health care provider and monitor your health for symptoms that could be COVID-19
- Get to know your neighbors (check websites and social media pages for updates
- Identify organizations that are available to help you and your community
- Create an emergency contact list
