Wayfinders

For Students

What is Wayfinders Clinic?

Our team will explore service needs for individuals with disabilities, their families and/or caregivers, who meet certain determination factors, through a wholistic and multidisciplinary lens. Our team consists of licensed professionals from multiple disciplines, including:

  • Speech pathology
  • Social work
  • Psychology
  • Occupational therapy

In addition to our Wayfinders team, outside CED agencies and providers are also involved in this clinic and present in the virtual meetings as appropriate for the type of service need that has been identified.

Every clinic meeting is unique and designed to specifically meet the individual needs of each child and family we serve.

How are students involved?

We welcome students to observe the virtual clinic meetings. Students of any major or discipline are invited to attend. Students will participate by observing privately, with the camera turned off as to not be overwhelming or intimidating to the person(s) being served.

When a clinic meeting is scheduled, the students who have expressed interest will be included in the meeting invite via email. The email will have the virtual meeting details enclosed. Meetings will take place weekdays between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

What will students learn?

  • Interdisciplinary collaborative practices
  • Family-centered care
  • Cultural competency
  • Services available in the community
  • Service needs and gaps in West Virginia
  • Systemic barriers to receiving disability services in West Virginia
